Getting Started with Online Private Education

While successful online learning depends on sophisticated technology, it’s really all about people. Effective online learning depends on a cohesive educational team: parents committed to playing a strong supportive role, dedicated teachers who are experts in online learning, and students who are motivated to develop effective learning and time management skills.

The Enlightium Academy Ignitia System is the tool that facilitates the learning process for teachers, students and families. Our Ignitia System is constantly evolving to stay up to date, but most importantly, we have the knowledgeable and caring staff and teachers who can always help with ideas and support to make distance learning work for each family.

When families first consider Enlightium Academy, they are often unfamiliar with online education and wonder how it can work for them. Most Enlightium Academy families eventually wonder why they did not start with our program sooner.

Our online courses are delivered asynchronously, meaning that students may access their lessons at any time. The curriculum is embedded with a strong teacher voice that allows students to work through their courses as self-guided and self-paced, promoting an atmosphere where students take ownership of their own learning. Our electronic grade book provides 24/7 access to each student’s progress and archives past quizzes and tests that can be reviewed online at any time. We encourage you to review our Ignitia system by logging in under a student demo account.

Admissions Requirements

All students seeking to enroll in Enlightium Academy must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the English language. Additionally, students enrolling in Enlightium Academy's high school program must be able to provide proof of completing the eighth grade. For students who do not have any other documentation for academic admissions to the ninth grade (e.g., prior homeschool students), the following guidelines will apply:

  1. If a student is 14 years or older, he or she is considered “age appropriate” for ninth grade and may enroll in Enlightium's high school program, using a birth certificate or other official documentation as proof.
  2. If a student is under 14 years of age, he or she must show proof of eighth-grade completion through one of these options

    - A middle school grade report or transcript
    - A certificate of eighth-grade completion
    - Standardized test scores showing eighth-grade achievement or higher (IOWA, ACT Explore, state testing, etc.)
    - A home school portfolio

  3. Students and their families can speak with a counselor to address other circumstances.

Transferring Your Credits

Most of our students need to transfer credits from other high schools or homeschooling programs. To facilitate the process, Enlightium Academy offers a free transcript and/or homeschool portfolio evaluation for transferring students.

If you are a foreign student, we do provide evaluation services, but we do it through an external service agency due to the complexities of foreign educational systems. Please allow 7-10 business days for processing a foreign transcript.
