Academic Challenges

Breadcrumbs

Enlightium Academy is dedicated to offering resources for students in need of an AIMS or ISP Modifications Plan, as well as, a 504 Accommodations Plan.

As a private school, Enlightium Academy (Enlightium) has several options when providing effective support to students with academic challenges and health impairments. However, we are unable to provide the same type of programs that public schools provide, due to the laws that govern educational funding for students with academic challenges.

Additional Information

  • AIMS/RD-ISP and 504 Support Plans are available for the duration of the traditional school year. Support for academic challenges or health impairments is not available over the summer.
  • AIMS/RD-ISP Modifications Plans are not available for Bronze, Silver, Primary School, and Part-Time students. 504 Accommodations Plans are available for all eligible Enlightium students.
  • The $250 team meeting fee is due prior to the scheduling; this is a portion of the $1,250 yearly add-on cost, so the remaining $1,000 is due within 30 days of the plan’s effective date unless another arrangement is authorized. View the Pricing Chart for more information.
  • Enlightium students with academic, cognitive, intellectual, learning, and health challenges interested in taking college-bound exams (i.e. PSAT, SAT, ACT) are required by ACT and CollegeBoard to have an active plan with their school prior to requesting accommodations for an exam. Accommodation requests take 6–8 weeks to be approved. Therefore, it is imperative to begin the process early.

Available Add-on Plans

Individualized Service Plan (ISP)

Available for Grades 3–12

One option is a Resident District Individualized Service Plan (RD-ISP). This is similar to an Individualized Education Program (IEP), however, it is designed to be used by a private school. Enlightium is able to accept a Resident District ISP directly from a Resident District.

Please note that funds have been allocated by the federal government for the public education system to provide families that choose private education for their students an evaluation to qualify for a RD-ISP. This is done through the family’s Resident District. They will evaluate and assess your student for a RD-ISP. If your student qualifies, they will write, manage, and own the RD-ISP. Enlightium’s AIMS/504/ISP Coordinator will collaborate with them to provide adaptations and/or accommodations for each student as the Resident District deems necessary and in accordance with our ability to meet those needs.

The process typically takes some time and course assignment may be delayed as your Resident District finalizes documentation.

In the meantime, students in grades 3–8 may continue to work on Bible courses and all students will have access to Enlightium’s Student Orientation course.

Academic Intervention Measures and Support (AIMS)

Available for Grades 3–12

The AIMS program was developed from Enlightium’s acknowledgment of the restrictive laws that govern educational funding for students with academic challenges and our desire to support the needs of our students by providing academic interventions and accommodations without a Resident District ISP. Enlightium accepts diagnostic documentation and doctor’s letters of recommendation from parents. Parents are a member of our team when creating Academic Intervention Measures and Support (AIMS) for their student.

Parents are welcome to invite the student and anyone that is working directly with the student (i.e. therapists, tutors, psychologists, doctors, etc) to the meeting. A Release of Sensitive Information Form must be signed and on file prior to the meeting if an invitation is extended to someone other than the parent.

In order to develop an AIMS plan to support the success of the student, Enlightium will host a virtual meeting with the following representatives and resources:

  • Diagnostic documentation provided by parents
  • Enlightium teachers' best practices
  • Enlightium Student Support Specialist’s proficiency in specialized support
  • Enlightium Principal's expertise in the used curriculum
  • The student’s Enlightium counselor's background knowledge
  • The AIMS/504/ISP Coordinator’s knowledge of how to best support students with Academic, Cognitive, Intellectual, Learning, and/or Health challenges

Section 504 Plan for Hearing Impairments

Available for Grades 3–12

According to www.dol.gov, a student’s physical, mental, or emotional health impairment is defined as:

...any physiological disorder or condition, cosmetic disfigurement, or anatomical loss affecting one or more of the following body systems: neurological; musculoskeletal; special sense organs; respiratory, including speech organs; cardiovascular; reproductive, digestive, genitourinary; hemic and lymphatic; skin; and endocrine; or any mental or psychological disorder such as, emotional or mental illness, and a major life activity, defined as functions such as caring for one’s self, performing manual tasks, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning, working, standing, lifting, bending, reading, concentrating, thinking, and communicating are impacted your child.

If this definition applies to your child, he/she may qualify for a Section 504 Plan.

A student does not need to be substantially limited in the major life activity of learning to be eligible under Section 504. A student may have a disability that in no way affects his/her ability to learn, yet the student may need extra assistance of some kind to complete Enlightium’s curriculum with success. The Section 504 Coordinator considers available diagnostic documentation and doctor’s recommendations concerning the implications for the student’s impairment and schedules a meeting to create a 504 plan.

In order to develop a 504 plan to support the success of the student, Enlightium Academy will host a virtual meeting with the following representatives and resources:

  • Diagnostic documentation provided by parents
  • Enlightium teachers' best practices
  • Enlightium Student Support Specialist’s proficiency in specialized support
  • Enlightium Principal's expertise in the used curriculum
  • The student’s Enlightium counselor's background knowledge
  • Parent’s expertise on their student
  • The AIMS/504/RD-ISP Coordinator’s knowledge of how to best support students with Health Impairments and Learning Challenges

Parents are welcome to invite the student and anyone that is working directly with the student (i.e. therapists, tutors, psychologists, doctors, etc) to the meeting. A Release of Sensitive Information Form must be signed and on file prior to the meeting if an invitation is extended to someone other than the parent.

Individualized Home Instruction Plan (IHIP)

Available upon request

An IHIP is an Individualized Home Instruction Plan (IHIP). Students typically do not need an IHIP unless their state or district explicitly requires one. If an IHIP is required, parents at Enlightium Academy (EA) simply need to reach out to their student’s counselor to provide one.

Depending on the time of the year, it may take up to 5 business days for the student’s counselor to provide an IHIP, so families should notify their counselor via email as soon as possible when requesting an IHIP.
