3 Back to School Bible Verses to Remember

As a new school year draws near, many of us seek inspiring back to school Bible verses. As with all of life’s endeavors, as graciously granted by the Father, Son, and Spirit, it is of the upmost importance to start off on the right foot in order to procure a successful and fruitful finish.

One way of entering the 2015-2016 school year in good form as parents, students, and teachers, is to begin with a biblical perspective. We have the wonderful privilege of fulfilling our end goal of glorifying God through bearing His image rightly wherein academic pursuits find their most glorious and rightful place.

Listed below are three verses that, when applied by God’s grace, will serve as noble back to school Bible verses to remember and help promote a flourishing academic year.

“Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” (Matt. 1:22-23)

God is not absent from our day-to-day affairs; rather, God is with us. Approximately 700 years prior to Christ’s birth, Isaiah prophesied that the Father would send His only and unique Son into the world in order that the world may be freed from the covenant curses of death. This simple yet profound truth fortifies us with comfort. Let us preserve this truth upon our hearts and minds throughout this school year; namely, Jesus is Immanuel: God with us.

Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who hath given understanding to the heart?(Job 38:36)

God endows His image-bearers with wisdom and understanding. John the Baptist affirms this with different words, “A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from heaven” (John. 3:27; cf. James 1:17). As we think about these back to school Bible verses, let us be continually reminded that the ability to perceive, the strength to understand, and the enlightenment to discern is a gift of God. This truth cultivates gratitude, thankfulness, and purpose in the heart of God’s image bearers.

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
(Phil. 4:13)

The Apostle Paul, while writing to the Philippians, strengthens the saints by noting this simple truth; namely, God empowers believers through and through – from faith to faith – from trial to triumph – from justification to glory. This biblical perspective serves to calm the heart amidst life’s many and varied circumstances and look to the Godhead for empowerment and shalom of being – knowing the Father through the Son by the Spirit permits all things for our good and His glory.
