10 Encouraging Bible Verses for Teens to Memorize
The teenage years can be hard. Body changes, new friends and even taking on new responsibilities can stress a teen and become burdensome. The media and peers both have influence on teens and how they should behave in today’s culture. Many teens often feel that they are not good enough. Teens can use any encouragement and praise that we can give them. The ultimate comforter and ‘cheerleader’ is Christ. He has given us a game plan of how to encourage teens with the Bible. The following list includes ten Bible verses for teens that they can memorize to keep tucked away in their hearts for when times get tough.
Deuteronomy 31:6
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Teens need to know that Christ is with them if they are a follower of him. This doesn’t mean that they have to always have their “ducks in a row”, but they do need to proclaim that He is the Savior of their soul. He will be with them whenever the going gets tough. This is definitely one of the Bible verses for teens that one should memorize.
1 Timothy 4:12
“Don’t let anyone look down on your because you are young. Instead, set an example for the believers through your speech, behavior, love, faith and purity.”
This generation is going to be in charge on day. Teens need to know now, though, that their opinions matter. Teens: Set an example to your peers and even adults. You have the ability through Christ to do amazing things in your life and in the life of others. Bible verses for teens to memorize needs to include this one.
Ephesians 4:29
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”
This verse brought be so much peace we I was a ‘young’ Christian. There were so many times that I became stressed because I did not know what I wanted to do with my life and I felt like a complete failure. This verse reassured me that if I put my trust in Christ, he was going to give me a future no matter what I did to receive it. This verse is not only a good Bible verse for teens, but also a good verse for anyone who is feeling unworthy.
Philippians 4:6-7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
What peace it is to know that God has everything under control. We do not have to worry about anything! We only need to submit our requests to God and be thankful for all that he has given us. We may not see our prayers answered right away, but we know that God is a faithful God and will do whatever will be best for us. This is one of my favorite Bible verses, especially in the mix for Bible verses for teens.
Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to me, all you who are struggling hard and carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Put on my yoke, and learn from me. I’m gentle and humble. And you will find rest for yourselves. My yoke is easy to bear, and my burden is light.”
John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
This Bible verse for teens could not come at a better time than now. With the presidential election coming up and everyone so confused on who they should vote for, this verse resonates. We all may be weary and trials may have come our way, but Christ has won! At the end of the day, Satan is defeated and Christ’s team is the winning team, no matter who is in the oval office.
Matthew 6:25-26
“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life--whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to Him than they are?
During my teen years, this was one of the first verses I ever memorized. During my college years when I went through hard times, this verse saved my life. This Bible verse for teens is great for adults as well. We often times worry about living from paycheck to paycheck or an illness that has sprung up in the life of your family. This verse tells us that God will never forsake us. He will take care of us.
2 Timothy 1:7
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world that he gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
This may be the number one Bible verse for teens to memorize. Not only does it help out with teens personally, but it also gives teens a verse that they can share with others. God calls us to be witnesses on this Earth and to share His word. This verse is the Gospel. Not only does it give us reassurance in Christ and where we will spend eternity, but it could also be the tool that God uses through us to bring others to Christ.
The teen years are tough. Like, really tough. Christ wants us to dig into His word and hide it in our hearts, so that when the times get tough, we can pull the verses out and let them be a comfort. These verses are great Bible verses for teens to memorize. Christ is the ultimate healer, protector and friend. What a way to get to know Christ than through His word!
