Not-just-a-school

In the current world of education, teaching and learning are moving from brick-and-mortar schools to the virtual world, from 30 students in a class to serving one student at a time. Especially in the last 10 years, online education is on the rise for homeschooling parents.1 It provides students the flexibility to learn anywhere, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as long as there is Internet availability. Homeschooled online students can take advantage of unique course offerings such as world languagesDual Enrollment (taking college courses while in high school), Advanced Placement (AP) coursesHonors courses, Gifted courses, and AIMS intervention. Importantly, homeschooled students enrolled at Enlightium Academy can obtain an accredited diploma recognized by colleges and universities around the world.

Enlightium Academy is not Just a School

Enlightium Academy is not just a school; this is because online education makes learning personal.

First, online teachers use technology in creative ways to replace brick-and-mortar school settings, such as instant messaging with certified teachers , overseeing discussion boards, providing educational articles, and utilizing video conferences with parents.2 Research indicates that in online settings teachers have more one-on-one interactions with students, resulting in more genuine relationships.3

Second, online students are able to practice their social and emotional learning on a personal level.

Third, parents of online homeschooled students have more opportunities to get involved with their student’s learning than in a traditional brick-and-mortar environment. At Enlightium Academy, counselors and teachers are meeting students where they are in the educational journey and bringing them to the next academic level. Research suggests that students are more likely to display increased engagement when parents and teachers become engaged.4 Importantly, students who were homeschooled for one year or less scored, on average, in the 59th percentile and students who were homeschooled for two or more years scored, on average, between the 86th and 92nd percentile in their academic achievement.5

Enlightium Academy values relationships

The family is where a child’s character is formed. Being a parent myself, I have learned the importance of leading children by example, being consistent in discipline, instilling good study habits, and building good relationships that impact them for life. Parents should strive to be good role models and to reinforce academic and character goals, which motivates students to be more responsible for learning.6 What is unique in online homeschool settings is that students have more time for social activities, such as sports, private lessons, teen or youth church activities, and valuable time with the family. Research suggests that a parent's involvement has a positive impact on their student’s learning. Similarly, students viewed parents’ interaction as significantly motivational.7 Notably, developing a good relationship while children are young benefits parents and children during teenage years when children strive for independence while working through emotional shifts, hormonal shifts, and other changes in their bodies. The trust rooted in childhood can help both parents and children go through the teenage stage more peacefully.

EA is not just a school iEnlightium Academy is a family

At Enlightium Academy, we teach academic, moral, and religious principles through the biblical worldview that is woven into the curriculum we offer. The Bible reminds us that the “house divided against itself will not stand” (Matthew 12:25b). Thus, we intentionally provide support to the parents of the students we teach through educational webinars, articles, and the Enlightium Parents app. For all family components to work in unity, Enlightium Academy team and parents need to partner and use all opportunities to collaborate throughout the year.

These three unique facets of Enlightium Academy distinguish it from other schools. For any other questions about online school education, please call (866) 488-4818, or visit EnlightiumAcademy.com.
