Families in Ohio with students enrolled in Enlightium Academy have relatively unknown benefits which may be available to them such as hardware and software from their local school district’s public schools, health and remedial services, and vocational training opportunities.

Enlightium Academy is a private Christian online school, but since students learn from home, many school district superintendents consider Enlightium Academy to be a homeschool. This is why it is very important when speaking to your local school district superintendent to note that Enlightium Academy is an accredited, college-prep private school, which should satisfy Ohio state requirements. Resources for homeschooling requirements in the state of Ohio can be found at the bottom of this article.

Ohio PinterestAccreditation

It is optional for a private school to be accredited in the state of Ohio. There are, however, several benefits to being enrolled in an accredited school.

Enlightium Academy is accredited by AdvancEd and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). These accrediting agencies hold Enlightium Academy to the highest standards in areas including curriculum, faculty credentials, and student expectations.

Teacher Requirements

Teachers at “nontax-supported schools” (which include private schools) should have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

As a part of Enlightium Academy’s dual accreditation, teachers are state and ACSI certified. Several faculty members have Masters degrees in their fields. Learn more at Enlightium’s Teachers page.

Schedule Requirements

Students in any non-public school must attend the equivalent hours and term of attendance as their public school counterparts. This must be a minimum of 175 days, two of which can be set aside for Parent-Teacher Conferences.

Enlightium Academy’s school calendar has 180 school days, so students who attend the full year meet this requirement.

Further, Parent-Teacher Conference availability at Enlightium Academy typically lasts for one month. There are two conferences during the school year with one in each semester. Parents arrange one or more Parent-Teacher Conference via phone or email during the course of the month.

Curriculum Requirements

Required courses include:

Course descriptions can be found on the Curriculum by Grade Level page.

Additional required courses can be taken as electives at Enlightium Academy:

Students are required to have instruction in fire prevention.

Enlightium Academy families can speak with their local school district superintendent to waive this requirement as the student is learning from home. Waivers should be communicated in writing (such as email).

Additionally, Ohio notes that students need to take any other courses as prescribed by the school of attendance.

Students in grades 9-12 will have required courses based on the type of diploma they are pursuing (examples include a regular diploma and an honors diploma). The list of requirements can be found on the High School Graduation Requirements page. Each student’s high school counselor will help the student sign up for the courses required for graduation.
