About

Our Teachers

Enlightium Academy teachers help students develop biblical thinking in every discipline. By God’s grace, we work and pray that students would also learn to model Christian character in every area of life.

We seek to cultivate an abiding love for Christ in our students by encouraging the study of scripture, a vibrant prayer life, and engagement with their local church (John 15:4-5). Teachers hold high expectations for how students relate to their peers and submit to those in authority, showing respect for all.

Teacher support is calibrated to serve students who possess the skills for self-guided, independent learning and demonstrate initiative and resilience in academics. To that end, teachers guide students to make effective and responsible use of every available resource.

Our teachers genuinely care about the success of each student and reach out to them proactively as they progress through the curriculum. Teachers also leverage educational technology and skills to provide dynamic, Christ-honoring instruction differentiated to suit every student’s learning needs. Each teacher curates and maintains an exclusive digital library of supplementary materials, videos, and explanations to supplement curriculum and aid learning.

Enlightium teachers work with their students on an individual level, communicating directly within the curriculum. Gold and Diamond students also receive real-time phone support and one-on-one Zoom video sessions.

She met many students who were afraid of math. As a result, she has made it her mission to change negative perceptions about math and make it relatable, engaging, and fun. Dr. Maya Herzog

Dr. Maya Herzog

As a young child, Dr. Herzog enjoyed being outside more than anything else. She had a vivid imagination and there was always an adventure waiting for her to explore. she imagined traveling to distant places, learning about animals and life from around the world, and meeting the people who lived there. After high school, following family tradition, she decided to join the U.S. Navy. Her ten years of active duty gave her an authentic glimpse of scientific investigation. During that time, she also became a mentor and teacher, teaching underwater physics, oceanography, and sonar electronic systems. During her free time, she worked with the Chaplain to organize humanitarian events and outreach for the developing countries that they visited.

Following ten years of honorable service, she decided to take the skills that made her an outstanding sailor and apply them toward a full-time career in science and academia. She graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Ph.D. in Quantitative Biology. Dr, Herzog has taught undergraduate biology classes, including cellular and molecular biology, ecology, genetics, and microbiology.

My favorite bible passage is 1 Samuel 3:10, as God was patient with Samuel, as He is patient with us. All we have to do is listen to understand what He wants us to do. Dr. Herzog believes she has been called to teach science. Every moment spent with a student or a peer, at meetings, or even quick greetings of 'hello' or 'good-bye,' is a moment of fellowship.

In her free time, Dr. Herzog likes spending time with her family and, most of all, her little guy. They enjoy hiking, camping (when it is not so hot!), and traveling. Most important is they share moments of reading the Bible and reflecting on God's message on how to go about their lives every day. These moments continue to make us stronger.

Academics

  • Does Enlightium Academy offer an Honors Program?

Enlightium does offer an Honors Program for students in teacher-led programs who are in grades 3–12! Honor courses are available for most English, history, math, and science courses and contain more in-depth material.

After your student has completed the admissions process, their Enlightium counselor will work with your family to see if your student is eligible for honor courses based on their scores on Enlightium’s entrance assessments and the grades from their previous school.

For students in grades 9–12, honor courses are identified as “HR” on their Enlightium transcripts. Additionally, most honor courses are NCAA approved and can be assigned to students seeking eligibility to compete as an athlete at the collegiate level.

Honor courses have a weighted GPA value of +0.5 to the student’s final GPA. High school students can pursue a College Preparatory/Honor Courses/Honors Diploma.

  • How does Enlightium Academy assist student athletes?

Enlightium provides NCAA approved courses for student athletes. More information can be found on Enlightium’s NCAA page.

  • Does Enlightium offer advanced courses?

Yes, Enlightium Academy offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses through College Board for grades 9–12. These types of courses demand the highest level of participation, peer collaboration, and quality of work from students. Students may need to start the AP course(s) as early as July to get ready to take the AP exam in May. The AP programs allow students to participate in a college-level course and earn college credits while still in high school. An Enlightium counselor will work with parents to determine if the student would be able to manage and be successful in Honors or AP courses.

Advanced Placement is identified on transcripts as “AP”. Both have a weighted value of +1.0 to the student's final GPA.

  • If my student failed classes in their previous school, how can Enlightium Academy help?

During the admissions process, students take entrance assessments and records are received from the student’s previous school. The student’s Enlightium counselor will then work with parents to assign the appropriate courses to ensure the student’s success.

The student may be assigned, at the counselor’s discretion, parts of a previously failed course, foundational courses to allow the student to relearn the building blocks, and/or credit recovery courses. As the student progresses in the school year, it is vital that the student and parent communicate to the Enlightium counselor if their student is still struggling in one or more courses.

  • If my student struggles academically, how can Enlightium Academy help with learning challenges?

Enlightium Academy offers specialized accommodations to the student’s coursework. Your student’s counselor will review the student’s entrance assessment results and their records from the previous school to determine what program would be most appropriate for the student. If specialized accommodations or modifications are required, a referral to the principal's office and the intervention team will be made and the student’s counselor will be required to wait to assign courses until after an evaluation and/or consultation has been completed.

  • What if my student has a hard time grasping academic concepts when taking online courses?

Your student’s Enlightium teacherswill answer your student’s academic questions via messages within the Ignitia platform. Phone support, screensharing, and face-to-face video chat are also available for students in the Gold, Diamond, and Sapphire Live packages. Teachers will actively work to provide each student proper scaffolding for success. This means that the teacher will seek to give exactly the right amount of support for each student to be challenged yet successful.

*Teacher support is available to students in grades 3-12 in the Silver, Silver+, Gold, Diamond, and Sapphire Live packages.

  • What is the English Language Learner (ELL) Program?

Enlightium Academy’s English Language Learners (ELL) Program offers students in grades 8-12, whose first language is not English, targeted support through modified English courses, English language practice and lessons, and instruction by a trained ELL instructor. This program is designed to equip older intermediate and advanced English language learners for transition to standard courses.

  • How does Enlightium Academy work with students who need academic intervention?

Students with learning challenges will be evaluated carefully with consideration of the type and severity of the challenge, as well as Enlightium’s capacity to accommodate the challenges.

Although we enroll students identified as needing Individualized Education Program (IEP) services, Enlightium Academy does not assess or update service plans. We customize curriculum, assignments, and academic standards for families that seek adaptations through a service plan in collaboration with each student’s resident district and based on the resident district created and managed Individual Service Plan (ISP). Students that would like to access our academic intervention program without a service plan will be evaluated carefully by a team of qualified Enlightium staff in collaboration with parents.

Enlightium Academy also provides Section 504 accommodations for students with diagnosed health impairments not requiring a service plan or academic adaptations. Our ISP and 504 Coordinator will work closely with the student’s parents, teachers, guidance counselor, and Enlightium Academy’s Assistant Principal to support student success while enrolled with Enlightium Academy.

For more information about these programs, see the Specialized Accommodations page.

Enlightium Academy reserves the right to decline enrollment to students with learning challenges if Enlightium lacks facilities and/or staffing to meet the needs of said student in the fullest possible way.

  • Are students required to use any textbooks?

The curriculum for PreK-2nd grade is textbook-based which is a separate cost than tuition. Parents then upload work samples and grades into the online platform several times each month.

For grades 3–12, the textbooks are built into the online learning platform. Students may still need to purchase additional material, typically for science and English courses. Families should review each course description for the phrase “Access Supply List”; these list any textbooks, science equipment, and other materials needed for the course. If students are unable to access material, they can simply message their teacher.

High school students taking Advanced Placement courses have required textbooks, as noted in the overview for each course.

  • How much time do students have to finish the school year?

The school year consists of 180 days over nine or ten months. Students are required to finish all work assigned within the given timeframe. Students enrolled in a one-semester course will have about 90 school days to complete the course. Enlightium offers summer school to those students who need more time to complete the school year; a summer school fee may apply.

  • Does Enlightium Academy offer standardized testing?

During the fourth quarter, Enlightium offers the IXL Diagnostic and the Iowa Complete for grades 3–8. Additionally, guidance for college-preparatory assessments is available to students in grades 9-12. Click here for a full list of testing options.

  • How does Enlightium Academy keep students accountable for assigned academic work?

Enlightium operates within an academic school year consisting of 180 instructional days with a defined first and last day of school. Students enrolled from the beginning of the school year are expected to complete all assigned courses within the 180 school days, unless a summer school extension is provided.

For students in grades 3-12, the daily schedule is assigned within the online learning platform that lists the assignments to be completed on each school day. Students are free to complete the daily assignments at any time throughout the day. Students should plan to complete the week’s work by Sunday night.

At Enlightium, we developed a progress summary notification that is sent weekly via email to keep parents informed and empower them with the information needed to keep their students accountable, and to help meet or exceed their state attendance standards and maintain our accreditation requirements. This email will provide a summary of key metrics like assignments completed vs. assignments due in the previous week, time spent, average score on multiple assignment types, and other data that will help parents gauge if their student is keeping up with the material and identify any red flags early on.

For students in the Homeschool Program, parents are provided a schedule to keep the student on track to finish the school year on time.

Admissions

  • Can I homeschool in my state?

Enlightium utilizes a nationally accredited Christian curriculum that is approved in all 50 states. Some states do require notification and/or documentation, such as ensuring that standard courses are being taken. We are more than happy to assist in the collection of any necessary documentation.

While it is the family’s responsibility to research and follow through with state regulations regarding homeschooling, Enlightium provides:

    • State resources which act as a starting point for how Enlightium can help fulfill any requirements.
    • State-specific groups in Enlightium’s Parent app.
  • My school district requires documentation that my student is enrolled with Enlightium. What should I do?

Once your student is enrolled, a Verification of Enrollment (VOE) can be requested by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. along with the reason for the request. Standard processing time is 3-5 working days depending on the purpose of the VOE.

  • I homeschooled my students. What should I do when applying to Enlightium Academy?

You need to collect any recent standardized test results (if available), core subject test grades, and any recent homeschool report cards (or ask for our template). If enrolling for high school, you will also need to collect sample essays, projects, and major assignments that your student did during each high school year along with the transcript. In some situations, more supporting documents might be required.

Please organize your documentation by subject: math, English, history, science, etc. Your student’s Enlightium counselor will also need to know the name of the curriculum that you used. You can then provide this information to the Enlightium admissions team during or after the enrollment process. Your student’s counselor may reach out to you if they have any questions or to request that you provide additional documentation.

  • When does the school year begin?

The school year’s start date can be found on Enlightium’s calendar.

  • Are students only admitted during certain times of the year?

Enlightium offers an open enrollment, which means that students can start anytime. Students can begin:

    • During the summer using Early Start (grades PreK8) or Summer Courses (grades 9-12).
    • At the standard start of the school year.
    • After the first day of school with their counselor helping create a custom plan.

Additionally, students who already completed some coursework at another school can enroll at Enlightium anytime during the school year. Their Enlightium counselor will help create a course schedule that best fits the student.

  • How can I send records to Enlightium Academy?

Enlightium Academy accepts report cards electronically from parents/guardians for students in grades K-8 and transcripts for students in grades 9–12. Please do not send records until after the enrollment form is submitted.

    You can send records:

  • Why does my child need to take the entrance assessments?

These assessments help evaluate that the student’s knowledge from the previous school aligns with Enlightium’s curriculum. In general, the Math and English Entrance Assessments scores will be used in conjunction with the previous school’s records in assigning courses.

  • I do not know if online learning is the right fit for my students. May I talk to someone?

Absolutely! Our academic consultants are available Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm PT (8:00 am to 7:00 pm ET). Please call (509) 319-2288 // option 1 to speak with an Enlightium academic consultant. We look forward to discussing your student's educational needs.

Curriculum

  • Is Enlightium Academy accredited?

Enlightium Academy is a private school accredited by both Cognia and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI); therefore, credits awarded by Enlightium are accepted at any K-12 school, college, or university nationwide, and are recognized internationally.

Enlightium Academy is accredited, licensed, and approved by the following organizations:

For more information, see the Accreditation page.

  • What courses are offered at Enlightium Academy?

Enlightium offers for students in grades:

*Core courses at Enlightium Academy are Bible, English, history, math, and science.

  • How quickly can students work through the curriculum?

Enlightium’s standard school year is 180 days; with summer school, this is extended to 210 days. Deadlines for students’ coursework are spread over the course of the school year; this allows students to move through the curriculum at their own speed. Enlightium’s program is mastery-based which provides students the opportunity to move quicker in some subjects and spend additional time in other subjects.

Additionally, students have access to the curriculum for most days of the school year (including weekends and holidays) and can use those days to catch up or work ahead.

  • Can I start courses while I’m waiting for the counselor to reach out to me?

    Grades PreK-2:

Students will not be able to begin working until they receive their textbooks in the mail. In the meantime, they can participate in Enlightium’s social and spiritual offerings. Parents will also have access to a Parent Orientation.

    Grades 3–12:

Students will be provided access to their Student Orientation within a few days of their course start date. Students can also participate in Enlightium’s social and spiritual offerings.

Daily Work

  • Are there specific times in the day when students need to login?

There are no specific times that students need to work each day. Students can log in at any time of the day for most days of the school year. Staff and teacher support are available during standard school hours, which are typically 8 am to 4 pm Pacific Time.

  • Are students enrolled at Enlightium Academy still in control of their own schedule?

One of the benefits of Enlightium Academy is flexibility. Students have the freedom to work during the hours that best fit their schedule. Check out Enlightium’s suggested daily planner for an example of an Enlightium student’s schedule.

While students have flexibility in their schedule, students should plan to complete each week’s work by Sunday night. Due dates are provided within Ignitia to help the student stay on track. Students do not lose credit for missing deadlines, as long as all work is submitted by the course’s end date.

Parents receive weekly progress emails which show if a student is on track or behind. If a student is falling behind, they can use evenings, weekends, and holidays to catch up. If a student works ahead, they have the option to complete the school year early.

  • Who do I contact if my student will not be able to complete schoolwork due to travel, illness, or another reason?

    1-2 days of absence

Simply have the student work ahead of time (if possible) and afterward to catch up on overdue assignments.

    3-10 days of absence

Submit Enlightium’s Absence Form. Have the student work ahead of time (if possible) and afterward to catch up on overdue assignments.

    11+ days of absence

  • Does Enlightium Academy provide spiritual resources and opportunities for Enlightium families?

  • What is the maximum age a student can be to earn their high school diploma from Enlightium Academy?

Enlightium Academy is based out of Washington state, which has a maximum age limit of 21 to receive a diploma. This means that students must obtain their high school diploma by their 21st birthday.

  • Does Enlightium Academy offer Honors diplomas?

Yes! Click here for a list of requirements to receive an Honors diploma.

  • Are there any fees for obtaining a diploma for graduating seniors?

There will be a $150 graduation fee for students in grade 12:

    • If the prepayment option is chosen, the fee is added to the tuition payment.
    • If the monthly payment plan is chosen, the fee will be divided evenly among the monthly payments.

If the diploma needs to be mailed internationally, the graduation fee is $300.

Technology

  • Does my student have to be connected to the Internet while doing schoolwork?

    Grades PreK-2:

Students do not need internet access to complete most, if not all, of their work. However, parents need Internet access to upload work and grades, typically 1-2 times per month.

    Grades 3–12:

Students need an internet connection to access the curriculum. Students can learn from any device that can access the Internet using a browser such as Chrome or Firefox; however, it is recommended to use only a laptop or desktop computer to submit work such as quizzes and tests.

Learn more about which types of internet connections work best with Ignitia.

  • Can I use a satellite internet connection if I live in a remote area?

It is not recommended to use satellite internet connections because of occasional reports of difficulty transmitting information to the main server. An ordinary dial-up connection usually works better than a satellite connection. However, if there are no other options, families may try using a satellite connection if they are willing to assume the risk. • An Honors Diploma requiring a minimum of 24 credits

See Graduation Requirements

Alumni Association

To receive an Enlightium Academy high school diploma, students need to earn a minimum of 22–24 credits between grades 9–12, depending on which year they enrolled at Enlightium and if they are working toward a standard or a college preparatory/honors diploma.

Credits previously earned at another traditional public or private school or homeschool program per the Enlightium counselor’s evaluation and approval will be transferred to Enlightium Academy. However, if a student enrolls at Enlightium during their senior year at least four credits must be earned at Enlightium in order to receive a diploma.

Graduation Ceremony

Enlightium Academy hosts an in-person graduation ceremony each year. Attendance is not required for a senior to graduate as a livestream is available for students and their families if not able to attend in person. However, graduation is an important milestone that we encourage our seniors to celebrate, meet faculty and other graduates, and enjoy the graduation banquet and live ceremony. For students who will be unable to attend Enlightium’s graduation ceremony, check out Enlightium’s Private Graduation Ceremony Tips!

Grades PreK-12: I understand that each subject within Enlightium’s curriculum is Christian-based and agree to have my student fulfill Enlightium’s requirements.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that Bible is a required course at Enlightium per the accreditation requirements of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). By enrolling our student(s) at Enlightium, we agree to follow the Biblical standards as outlined in the Family Handbook.

1.2 Academics

Grades PreK-12: I understand that it is my responsibility to familiarize myself with the Family Handbook. Please note that the terms “parent” and “guardian” are used interchangeably at Enlightium Academy.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that I will be invited to register with the Enlightium Parents app (an online platform and mobile application for parents/guardians). I agree to check my Enlightium Parents app account at least once a week for school news and updates.

Grades PreK-12: I understand the importance of my commitment and involvement to ensure success for my student, so I will make sure to create a focused learning environment at home, where my student is able to complete schoolwork without distractions.

Grades 3-12: I agree to oversee my student's progress via my student’s Ignitia account where they access the online curriculum or the Ignitia parent portal (available by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

Grades PreK-12: I agree to check the email account that I provided on the enrollment form on a weekly basis for news from Enlightium regarding events, notices, and tuition, and I agree to respond as applicable.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that Enlightium’s accreditation standards require students to spend an average of 20-40 minutes on each assignment (depending on the grade level and subject) to ensure mastery of the content. Please speak to your student’s counselor if there is a concern regarding the amount of time your student is spending on the curriculum.

Grades 3-12: I understand that concerns may arise when the amount of time taken by my student to complete coursework in Ignitia is insufficient, repeated blank assignments and/or projects are submitted, and/or other evidence of system abuse or lack of effort is discernible.

Grades 3-12: I understand that Enlightium reserves the right to adjust passing thresholds, adjust assignment attempts, and assign additional examinations and/or assignments to ensure that the student has acquired sufficient mastery to receive credit(s) per assigned course(s).

Grades PreK-12: I understand that standard staff and faculty response times may not necessarily apply to Add-Ons and Premium Electives.

Grades 3-12: I understand that it is my responsibility to ensure safe computer use by my student and that Enlightium Academy may require me to block certain websites and/or use monitoring software to ensure the integrity of my student's activity and to substantiate the credit-worthiness of the completed school work.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that my student is required to complete a minimum amount of work on a weekly basis, as scheduled, with a firm deadline for all work to be submitted by the end of each term unless otherwise approved by Enlightium’s administration. Please note that students are encouraged to align their work time with teacher availability to maximize academic support. However, they can study at any point in the day (including evenings) and on any day of the week (including weekends and holidays), and have until Sunday night to submit that week’s work to be considered on track. The only exceptions are Ignitia Down Days, which typically occur at the end of each quarter when Enlightium’s team works on preparing report cards/transcripts. You can view Enlightium’s calendar for details.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that the following due dates apply to all students with some exceptions per the principal’s review and approval:

  • Grades PreK-8: All work must be finished by the end of the official last day of a given school year.*
  • Grades 9-12: All semester work must be completed by the end of the given semester:*
    • Seniors have an early official last day of school, as indicated on the school calendar.
    • All high school students are required to finish all semester coursework by the assigned semester’s deadline in order to receive credits.

*Unless otherwise approved by Enlightium’s principal.

Grades PreK-8: I understand that merely enrolling at Enlightium Academy does not guarantee grade-level promotion. Promotion is based on satisfactory progress and overall course scores. If the coursework is not finished by the assigned term deadline, the student will receive zeros for all incomplete work after the due date. The student will receive an “Incomplete” on their report card in courses with less than 75% completion.

Grades 9-12: I understand that my student’s counselor may reduce my high school student's course load in certain circumstances if my student is significantly behind in courses and/or if there are not enough days left in the current term to finish all assigned work. I also understand that I will not be reimbursed for Enlightium’s courses that might be removed from my student's schedule. Upon notification by my student’s counselor of these changes, I will be able to discuss any concerns and work with my student to meet deadlines.

Grades 3-12: I understand that a teacher may block my student's work in a course until a solution is determined between the teacher, the parent(s), and the student if any of the following situations occur consistently:

  • Persistent technical errors that result in low or failing scores on assignments,
  • Failed quizzes/tests,
  • Academic dishonesty (cheating) or suspicion thereof, including providing answers to others directly or by posting assignment answers publicly, and/or
  • Blank assignment submissions.

Grades 3-12: I understand that if I do not respond to communication from staff and/or faculty regarding a given issue in the timeframe provided, a student’s account access may be suspended until a resolution is reached.

Grades 3-12: I agree to Enlightium's plagiarism policies. I also understand that plagiarism or cheating on an assessment, including quizzes and tests, will result in a zero grade for the entire assignment. I agree to review the plagiarism policy in the Family Handbook (Section IX. Course Work, Plagiarism) with my student.

Grades 9-12: I understand that if my student would like to compete in sports at the collegiate level, the Enlightium student’s counselor must be informed via the enrollment form or by email so that NCAA-approved courses will be assigned. I also understand that it is my responsibility to ensure all NCAA requirements are met by my student. I also understand that NCAA courses are not available to students in the Bronze Package.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that Enlightium is an educational institution accredited by the regional and national accrediting organizations Cognia and ACSI; however, it is my responsibility to review and comply with my state’s homeschooling requirements. I also agree to review Enlightium Academy’s resources on online homeschooling in my state.

Grades 9-12: I understand that students in grade 12 who meet Enlightium Academy’s graduation requirements and comply with their state’s school requirements, in general, are accepted by public and private colleges and universities nationwide. I also understand that some colleges and universities have unique admission requirements, so it is my responsibility to contact colleges/universities that I am considering to determine what additional admission requirements exist, if any.

Grades PreK-12: If enrolling under the Alliance program, I agree to allow Enlightium Academy to share relevant information on a need-to-know basis with my alliance school named on the enrollment form.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that Enlightium may highlight or showcase students with Enlightium’s stakeholders and/or for marketing purposes through internal or external communication, and that typically the student’s first name, last initial, grade level, and state of residence would be used, except in cases where I provide written permission allowing for more personally identifiable information. An example includes a recording of a student spelling bee contest, which may include the winning student’s first name, last initial, grade level, and state of residence.

1.3 Attendance

Grades PreK-12: I understand Enlightium will track my student’s school progress and send notices to me by email and/or phone. If my student will be missing school for three or more school days, I agree to notify Enlightium via an Absence Form before an expected absence or as soon as possible during an unexpected absence.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that, as an approved and accredited private online school, Enlightium abides by a truancy policy and as such reserves the right to withdraw a student who has not been active and shows little or no progress in the curriculum for four weeks. I agree to maintain ongoing communication with regard to my student’s progress.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that Enlightium reserves the right to deny enrollment to any student if the administration team believes that the family is unable to support their student’s academic needs sufficiently. If this occurs, any enrollment fee and tuition paid for the school year in question may be refunded.

1.4 Withdrawal

Grades PreK-12: I understand that once some or all classes are assigned for my student, I will be notified via email that my student’s schoolwork has begun. During the first 14 days, if I find that online school is not for my student, I can contact Enlightium Academy by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to withdraw my student for any reason. Once the withdrawal is processed, Enlightium will cancel any scheduled tuition payments, and I will receive a refund on any tuition paid within the 14-day trial period. I understand that the 14-day trial period is only applicable to new students and the standard withdrawal policy will apply if I am re-enrolling my student. I also understand that the enrollment fee is refundable only if I withdraw my student within 72 hours of submitting my enrollment form.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that in the event that I choose to withdraw my student from Enlightium Academy for any reason and at any time, I am responsible for filling out the Withdrawal Form. I also understand that when I and/or another school request records from Enlightium Academy, three to five business days may be required for Enlightium’s registrar to prepare and send records to my student’s next school. Note that more time may be required.

Grades PreK-12: I agree to the Withdrawal Policy, which states that Enlightium Academy will apply a staggered withdrawal fee schedule based on coursework completed (if ahead) or time enrolled (if on track or behind) at 20% for withdrawing between 15–30 calendar days from the beginning of starting coursework, 30% for 31–60 days, 40% for 61–90 days, and no refund after 90 days with remaining monthly installment payments being immediately owed in full. For students in the book-based Homeschool Program, the “beginning of coursework" is considered two weeks from the date that the book order form was emailed to the primary parent on file. Students in grades PreK-2 who have purchased books prior to withdrawal will need to handle book returns separately with the applicable textbook supplier.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that Enlightium’s report card/transcript will not be released until the withdrawal fee and tuition due are paid; this withdrawal policy applies if the withdrawal is initiated by myself or Enlightium’s administration due to lack of payment, low academic progress, low attendance, and/or failure to comply with Enlightium Academy policies. I also understand that the fee will not apply to a prearranged partial-year enrollment. The partial enrollment must be clearly requested on the enrollment form to be applicable.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that the withdrawal fee does not apply to Add-Ons, premium electives, or any additional courses, as those are payable in full and due upon enrollment of the course (unless noted otherwise) and are non-refundable after the 14-day trial period.

Grades 3-12: I understand that as honors courses, standard courses, and remedial courses are separate courses, there is a $100 course transfer fee to transfer grades from one course to another after the 14-day trial period. The cost to transfer between platforms is $200. A course change is anything hosted inside of the student’s current school platform. If the student needs to change educational platforms, then the platform change fee will instead apply.

Grades PreK-12: Enlightium reserves the right to withdraw a student in the event that a parent or guardian violates the Enlightium Academy Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct.

Grades PreK-12: If a student changes from continuous enrollment to standard enrollment or is withdrawn before the end of the contract, a $250 termination fee and Enlightium’s standard withdrawal policy would follow.

1.5 Billing

Grades PreK-12: I authorize Enlightium Academy to electronically charge my debit card, credit card, or bank account for tuition, as outlined below, and, if necessary, to electronically charge my debit or credit card to correct an erroneous transaction. I also understand that Enlightium may send account delinquent balances to a debt collection agency.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that the first tuition payment will be made with the card on record as early as three days after the enrollment form is submitted. The amount charged will be based on information provided on the enrollment form, such as the student’s grade and the teacher support package chosen. I also understand that if the final tuition differs from that stated on the enrollment form, the difference will be communicated to my family via email and the remaining payment(s) will be adjusted accordingly.

Grades PreK-12: If I believe that a charge was processed in error, I will contact the Enlightium Academy Billing Department by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to void the payment on the same day of the charge or to process a next-day refund via ACH rather than submitting any disputes with a credit card agency. I also understand that improper chargeback disputes will result in a $30 charge to my account. Returned payments on the account will result in a $45 charge.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that an initial declined transaction will be reprocessed daily for two additional attempts; after the third attempt, a $5 late fee will be added to the payment. I also understand that I have a total of ten days from the initial scheduled payment date to make a payment or request an arrangement to avoid my student’s account being deactivated.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that a $25 reactivation fee will be due before my student’s account can be reactivated. I also understand that once deactivated, I have 15 days to pay, make arrangements, or be withdrawn, at which point my student may only be reinstated upon administrative approval; an additional $50 reinstatement fee will be due prior to reinstatement.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that the tuition should be paid by the end of the school year. Under certain circumstances, tuition payments may be scheduled into the summer months. In such cases, I understand my responsibility to make the remaining payments after the school year is over since the tuition is based on the coursework assigned and not on the time frame wherein the curriculum is accessed. I also understand that requesting to extend payments past the end of the school year will result in an additional fee of 20% per payment being scheduled past the school end date (see the official school calendar).

Grades PreK-12: I understand that Enlightium reserves the right to hold records until the tuition has been paid in full.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that refunds for overpayment can be issued upon request, but will be left as tuition credit with Enlightium unless otherwise requested. In most cases, a form must be signed before a refund will be issued. This form will depend on the criteria of the refund. If the refund type is different from the original payment method, a $30 refund fee may apply.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that if I utilize a voucher payment for my student from a third party, then the balance must be paid in a maximum of four quarterly payments and that a fee of up to $150 may be assessed. If there is any state legislation regarding the voucher payment, then that will supersede this policy, and a new policy will be enacted on a case-by-case basis to best reflect the original intentions of this policy. Voucher payments are not refundable directly to parents as required by law and may be subject to alternative withdrawal policies, depending on the state requirements and other factors.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that discounts do not apply to Add-Ons, premium electives, or any other additional fee. Discounts for tuition or enrollment fees cannot be combined. I also understand that part-time students are not eligible for discounts. Part-time for billing purposes is fewer than two credits taken per semester, or fewer than four credits per year. Promo codes for the enrollment fee are not applicable to returning households.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that Enlightium offers a standard level of support based on my selected teacher support level for a set period of time (typically until the end of the school year or, if applicable, during the summer). I also understand that Enlightium reserves the right to charge fees for additional services beyond the selected support level and for extending the duration of services offered (i.e. early start, summer school). Any additional fees will be typically communicated via email.

PreK-12: I understand that after 14 days of my student’s courses being assigned, there will be a $5 fee for a one-time change of payment date, as well as a $15 fee if I choose to change all remaining payment dates.

PreK-12: I understand that upon receiving my student’s tuition scheduled email, I have 14 days to respond with any questions or adjustments. After this 14-day period, the tuition scheduled email will be in fulfillment of the pricing agreement of these terms. I also understand that if I make any additional purchases or make other changes, future tuition scheduled emails will also be legally binding with the same 14-day period applied.

Grades 3-12: I understand that after the 14-day trial period there is a $100 fee for changing my student’s teacher support package, such as from the Silver+ Package to the Silver Package. The tuition difference will be calculated based on the work completed/time enrolled. The fee to switch from the premium packages (Gold, Diamond, and Sapphire Live) will be waived the first time. Also, I understand that if the tuition was prepaid, I can select between a one-time payment for the difference in tuition (including a current prepayment discount, if applicable) or the monthly payment option with no discounts. The fee to switch between support platforms is an additional $100, up to $200 total.

Grades 9-12: I understand that my student will be assigned the recommended coursework to progress toward graduation and that graduation requirements must be met in order to graduate. I also understand that the standard full-time student tuition is calculated based on grade level. I also understand that if enrolling as a part-time student, the student cost per credit is applicable.

Grade 12: I understand that if my student is a graduating senior there will be a $150 graduation fee. If the prepayment option is chosen, the $150 fee will be added to my tuition. If the monthly payment plan is chosen, the $150 fee will be divided evenly among my monthly payments. If the diploma needs to be mailed outside of the United States, the graduation fee is $200. Any additional documentation may incur an additional charge.

1.6 Technical

Grades 3-12: I understand that a working computer and an internet connection are required for students to access Ignitia, the online curriculum used at Enlightium, and that Enlightium does not provide computers for its students as that is the parent’s responsibility. I understand that students can learn from any device that can access the Internet using a browser such as Chrome or Firefox; however, it is recommended to use only a laptop or desktop computer to submit work such as quizzes and tests.

Grades PreK-2: I understand that I need a working computer and an internet connection to upload graded work to Ignitia and that Enlightium does not provide computers.

Grades PreK-12: All families need to opt into various forms of communication from Enlightium, including email, SMS text, and use of the Enlightium Parents app.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that my student or I may be required to take pictures of hand-written work or drawings for assignments in courses such as math and science. I understand that work can be submitted in Ignitia by:

  • Using a scanner and then uploading the file into Ignitia, or
  • Using an app like Microsoft Lens or Adobe Scan to scan the assignment into a PDF using your smartphone’s camera

Grades PreK-12: I understand that satellite internet is not recommended as it may cause technical issues with Ignitia. I also understand that Enlightium is not liable for any issues caused by satellite internet.

Grades PreK-12: I understand that my student is expected to adhere to Enlightium’s online student behavioral policies as presented in the Family Handbook. I understand that if my student’s online activities pose a security risk to Enlightium Academy or its students, Enlightium will take immediate action to disable their school accounts, at which time a meeting will be arranged between the student, their parents/guardians, and the administration to discuss potential disciplinary actions to prevent such behavior. I understand that it is my responsibility to inform my student of the potential dangers associated with meeting strangers in online chatrooms, opening unknown file attachments, and accessing websites with questionable content.

1.7 Bronze Program

This section is ONLY applicable to parents of students enrolled in the Bronze Program.

Grades 3-10: I understand that I am required to read, sign, and submit the Enlightium Bronze Parent Agreement Form. This form outlines my responsibilities to ensure the success of my student(s) enrolled in the parent-led Bronze Program.

Grades 3-10: I understand that my responsibilities, as outlined below, are required to remain enrolled in this parent-led program where parents assume the role of a teacher:

  • I will instruct my student about the assignments and lessons, review notes with my student prior to them taking a quiz or test, discuss incorrectly marked questions with them, and go over solutions to ascertain my student’s understanding. Enlightium teacher support at the Bronze level is limited only to grading.
  • I will log into the Parent Portal and/or the Student Portal in Ignitia daily to check my student’s academic progress.
  • If needed, I will email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for more details concerning the amount of time that my student spent on schoolwork, etc.
  • I understand that primary communication for Bronze support is done via email, with limited phone support and no screensharing available. Therefore, I will monitor my email at least once a week for important messages from Enlightium Academy.
  • I will ensure my student completes the weekly allotment of assignments.
  • I understand that if my student falls more than two weeks behind on average between all assigned subjects, then they will be placed on Low Progress Probation and will be required to:
    • Upgrade to a teacher-led package (such as the Silver Package) or,
    • Be withdrawn from Enlightium Academy
  • I understand that if my student has a grade below 73% in one or more courses, they will need to show significant improvement; otherwise, they will be required to upgrade to a teacher-led support level or withdraw. Returning students with grades below 73% in any course or incomplete school work are not allowed to enroll in the Bronze program, regardless of which support level they were previously enrolled in.

  • California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA)

The California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA) requires commercial websites and online services to post a privacy policy. The law's reach stretches well beyond California and requires any person or company in the United States that operates websites collecting Personally Identifiable Information from California consumers to post a conspicuous privacy policy on its website stating exactly the information being collected and those individuals or companies with whom it is being shared. • Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA)

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education.

Enlightium Academy, as a private Christian school, does not receive any funds from the government, though we follow the privacy policy guidance as an accredited and approved K-12 school.

FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children's education records. However, these rights transfer to the student when he or she reaches the age of 18 or attends a school beyond the high school level. Students to whom the rights have transferred are "eligible students".

    • Generally, Enlightium Academy must have written permission from the eligible student in order to release any information from a student's education record. However, according to FERPA, Enlightium Academy will disclose educational records without consent to the following parties or under the following conditions (34 CFR § 99.31):
      • School officials with legitimate educational interest;
      • Other schools to which a student is transferring;
      • Specified officials for audit or evaluation purposes;
      • Appropriate parties in connection with financial aid to a student;
      • Organizations conducting certain studies for or on behalf of the school;
      • Accrediting organizations;
      • To comply with a judicial order or lawfully issued subpoena;
      • Appropriate officials in cases of health and safety emergencies; and/or
      • State and local authorities, within a juvenile justice system, pursuant to specific state law.

Enlightium Academy may disclose, without consent, "directory" information such as a student's name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, honors and awards, and dates of attendance. Enlightium Academy will notify eligible students about directory information and allow eligible students a reasonable amount of time to request that the school not disclose directory information about them. The actual means of notification during the admission process, via enrollment application, Family Handbook, and other means per Enlightium’s discretion.

An eligible student/alumni can fill out and sign Enlightium Academy’s Consent to Release and Share Information Form approving communication and sharing of information to any person or organization he or she deems appropriate. For additional information, visit the Federal Relay Service website.

  • Children Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) puts parents in control when it comes to the collection of personal information from children under the age of 13. The COPPA Rule, defines what website operators and providers of online services must do to protect children's privacy and safety online.

We do not specifically market to children under the age of 13 years old, including ad networks or plug-ins that collect personally identifiable information.

  • General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

The GDPR is a legal framework that sets forth guidelines for the collection and processing of personal information from individuals who live in the European Union (EU).

The seven key principles of GDPR are (1) lawfulness, fairness, and transparency; (2) purpose limitation; (3) data minimization; (4) accuracy; (5) storage limitation; (6) integrity and confidentiality (security); and (7) accountability.

Pursuant to these principles, we have already given indication in our Privacy Policy above and our Web Terms of Service policy below as to what data we collect, how we collect that data, how we use said data, and how we utilize cookies on our website. One further point of clarification is that all of our customer data is stored on secure encrypted platforms. We also keep offline, encrypted backups in a secured fireproof safe. Our employees may also temporarily store your data on their work computers’ hard drives during the day-to-day operations. It is our policy that they delete such data in a timely manner and keep it stored securely on our cloud-based platforms.

GDPR offers a robust set of rights that give EU residents a high level of control over their information and data. We strive to honor these rights within a reasonable framework and extend this as well to all of our customers regardless of their country of origin and residence. Below are what we generally offer pursuant to these rights:

    1. The right to access - You have the right to request Enlightium for copies of your personal data. We may charge you a small fee for this service.
    2. The right to rectification - You have the right to request that Enlightium corrects any information you believe is inaccurate, under certain and reasonable conditions. You also have the right to request Enlightium to complete information you believe is incomplete, under certain and reasonable conditions. This is subject to administrative review and approval as, for example, we cannot simply correct report cards or transcripts without a formal and rigorous review process.
    3. The right to erasure - You have the right to request that Enlightium erase your personal data, under certain and reasonable conditions. This applies to addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, payment methods, confidential correspondences, and general contact information saved in our systems. Because we are an educational institution, we retain the right to maintain all necessary records that are a part of the school processes (i.e., previous school records, transcripts, report cards, assignments, etc.).
    4. The right to restrict processing - You have the right to request that Enlightium restrict the processing of your information under certain and reasonable conditions in any manner that does not interfere with our core business processes.
    5. The right to object to processing - You have the right to object to Enlightium’s processing of your personal data, under certain and reasonable conditions, in any manner that does not interfere with our core business processes.
    6. The right to data portability - You have the right to request that Enlightium transfer the data we have collected to another organization, or directly to you, under certain and reasonable conditions.

Though Enlightium cannot outline every possible scenario that may fall under these rights, our administrative team will consider and discuss with you more thoroughly the certain and reasonable conditions mentioned, per your request. Please keep in mind that there is a point in which the limitations you place on your data hinders our ability to support you, and thus we retain the right to reasonably limit the extent to which we can comply with GDPR rights in order to maintain our school processes and continue to do business with you. You have the right to not continue enrollment at Enlightium and to restrict the data collected thus far.
