An Introduction to Logic

1 Credit
Available to Grade 12

An Introduction to Logic is a logic course that introduces students to the foundational aspects of logic. The overarching goal of this course is to provide students with the knowledge, tools, and skills necessary to critically analyze, evaluate, and construct arguments of their own and others. This course grounds the study of Logic in the nature of God and the image of God in humanity, which invites students to ponder and apply the importance and value of logic in daily decision-making. The majority of this course is based on Patrick J. Hurley’s A Concise Introduction to Logic 11th Edition.

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to articulate the relationship between God and logic, the importance of Logic in moral decision-making, the basic concepts of Logic, discern an argument from a non-argument, produce clear and effective terminology for arguments, detect fallacious arguments, assess the validity/strength and soundness/cogency of an argument, produce valid/strong arguments, and the ability to construct standard-form categorical propositions.

Per counselor approval, students can take An Introduction to Logic instead of Foundations for Living (taken in grade 12).

  • The Origin of Logic
