As parents of online students, we want our children to feel connected and not isolated. While the convenience of online learning is a great advantage, it can be challenging for some students to make friends or find meaningful ways to socialize. Fortunately, there are many activities that an online student can participate in and stay socially engaged outside the classroom, from joining clubs and church groups to participating in local sports teams. There are plenty of options that can help an online student make friends and stay connected! In this blog post, we'll explore some of these options and learn how your online student can socialize while pursuing their education via online learning.

Online Social Groups

Online clubs and organizations can provide an excellent way for online students to connect with like-minded peers. With so many communities available online, your student can easily find a group that shares their interests. Whether it’s joining a book club or taking part in a virtual art class, there are plenty of activities that can help your student socialize while learning new skills.

Enlightium Academy provides students with multiple social opportunities, ranging from Chess Clubs to a Pen Pal Program. Students can register for a social event during Student Social Week in the first quarter of each school year; registration remains open for select social opportunities for students who enroll later in the school year.

Church Friends

In addition to joining clubs and organizations, connecting with church friends is another great option for online students. It’s important to remember that church friends are not only supportive but often share similar values and interests as well. They can be a source of comfort and motivation during difficult times, providing your student with the love and support they need to stay focused on schoolwork.

Local Sports

For active online students who enjoy physical activity, local sports teams provide a great opportunity to stay healthy while having fun. Whether students are joining an intramural team or playing pick-up games with friends from around the neighborhood, sports are an excellent way for them to stay connected with their community while also gaining valuable experience in teamwork and leadership.

Students enrolled at Enlightium can even participate in the Running Club, during which seasoned runners discuss topics with students such as stretching practices, setting goals, and having an accountability group.

Finally, volunteering is another great way for online students to meet new people while giving back to the community. From working at local charities to participating in environmental cleanups, there are plenty of ways for your student to serve their community while learning more about themselves in the process. Not only will they get the chance to connect with other volunteers, but they will also gain valuable leadership skills that will serve them well in their future career path. 

Students interested in volunteering in their local communities may be interested in our Service Club, a social opportunity that focuses on both studying Scripture and practical acts of service. High school students enrolled at Enlightium can also use their volunteer service towards their graduation requirements!
