Enlightium Academy is a private Christian school that is accredited by Cognia and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). Enlightium has served homeschool, online, and co-op school students in K-12 since 2003. As K-12 education policies are different in each country, it is a parental responsibility to check on their country’s requirements and fulfill them as applicable. To assist parents with this process, Enlightium provides basic information about some countries’ requirements. Parents are also encouraged to review their country’s requirements at hslda.org/legal/international and/or the Israeli Ministry of Education, as educational policies are subject to change over time.

Receiving Approval
Families apply for a one-year exemption from Israel's Compulsory Education Law through the Ministry of Education, submitted through the Ministry's parent-facing home education process and renewed annually.
Families wishing to provide home education in Israel should apply for an exemption from the Compulsory Education Law through Israel’s Ministry of Education home education process. Applications are generally submitted through the Ministry’s designated parent-facing process and may involve review by district, regional, or local education officials. Approval is granted one school year at a time and should be renewed annually unless otherwise directed by the Ministry. Click here to get started.
Country Educational Funds
Israel provides free education in state institutions and certain eligibility-based education supports. However, these should not be described as general funding for private online home education. Families should confirm directly with Israeli authorities whether any education-related benefit applies to their family.
Academic Calendar
Israel’s Ministry of Education sets school-year calendars and school-day expectations for recognized educational institutions. For families approved for independent education at home, the student’s schedule should be consistent with the educational plan approved through the Ministry’s home education exemption process and any conditions included in that approval.
Families enrolled with Enlightium Academy typically follow Enlightium's academic calendar unless otherwise directed by their local Ministry of Education office. Enlightium’s school calendar has 180 school days (around 210 days with summer school). Additionally, students have access to the courses 24/7 for most days of the school year, including weekends and holidays.
Age Requirement
Reporting / Compulsory Education Age Requirement: Generally ages 3–17, with home education requiring approval/exemption from Israel’s Ministry of Education.
Ages three and four:
Students can enroll in primary school at Enlightium Academy to get a head start and be ready for kindergarten.
Aged five and older:
Students must continue their education at a school of their parents’ choice through 12th grade (16/17 years old).
Instructor Qualifications
Israel does not appear to require parents who provide approved independent education at home to hold a formal teaching certificate. Instead, families seeking home education approval should be prepared to demonstrate that they can provide an educational program that meets the standards established by Israel's Ministry of Education.
As a part of Enlightium Academy’s dual accreditation, Enlightium teachers are state* and/or ACSI-certified. A number of our faculty members have Master's and Doctorate degrees in their fields.
*For students living in the U.S., this does not necessarily mean that their teachers are certified in the student’s state of residence, but instead in the teacher’s state of residence. For most states, this distinction is not important to the student’s academics.
Required Subjects
Israel does not appear to publish a simple English-language list of required homeschool subjects. However, families seeking approval for home education should be prepared to submit an educational program that meets the standards established by Israel's Ministry of Education.
Standardized Assessment
Israel does not appear to require a specific standardized test for all home education students.
However, Enlightium requires and provides multiple assessment options to see how your student is progressing per a given grade level:
- Grades PreK-8: IXL diagnostic assessments or Iowa Complete Annual Assessment; you can also opt out of an assessment
- Grades 9-12: Guidance for college-preparatory assessments such as the PSAT, SAT, and/or ACT
Immunization Requirement
Israel does not appear to require homeschool families to submit immunization records as part of the home education approval process. However, families should confirm whether any health, vaccination, or local documentation requirements apply to their circumstances with their regional Ministry of Education office before beginning home education.
Keep a Portfolio
Israel does not currently appear to require homeschool families to maintain a formal portfolio or specific educational records such as attendance logs or curriculum samples. However, because home education approval is reviewed annually, families are strongly encouraged to keep records in case they are requested by Israel's Ministry of Education as part of the approval or renewal process. This can include:
- Attendance - Enlightium provides your family with progress reports via email. You can screenshot the details in these emails to show attendance.
- Curriculum information and samples - Enlightium provides its families with both curriculum overviews by grade level and samples by course.
- Academic plans - Enlightium Academy counselors provide academic plans during the admission process for each of our four divisions of grades: primary school (PreK-2), elementary school (3-5), middle school (6-8), and high school (9-12).
- Grades - Enlightium provides report cards for all students at the end of each quarter. Transcripts are available upon request.
- Test scores - This can include occasional screenshots of test scores and/or standardized assessment scores.
- Academic Awards - Enlightium provides qualifying students with certificates for Honor Roll, Scholar’s List, Dean’s List, Outstanding Improvement, and the Presidential Award.
- Social/Competition Achievements - Enlightium holds social events and competitions throughout the school year, such as art competitions and involvement in the Student Council.
Enlightium Parents App with Group for Israel Families
Enlightium Academy has an app and a desktop platform for families of currently enrolled students. Within this app is a group just for families living in Israel to inform and support each other in fulfilling their country’s requirements. Your family will be provided a link to download the app after enrolling.
