The summary below is available for your convenience but it does not replace the full application terms & agreements:
I (we) understand:
I (we) understand that each subject within the curriculum is Christian-based and agree to my (our) student fulfilling Enlightium requirements.
I (we) understand that the Bible is a required course at Enlightium per Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) accreditation requirements. As an accredited school by ACSI, we are required to set and follow Biblical standards as outlined in the Family Handbook, which is provided to families upon enrollment:
I (we) understand that it is my (our) responsibility to familiarize myself with the Enlightium Family Handbook, which is provided to families upon enrollment.
I (we) understand the importance of my (our) commitment and involvement to ensure success for my (our) student. I (we) understand that it is recommended that I (we) create a focused learning environment for my (our) student, where they are able to complete schoolwork comfortably and without distractions.
I (we) agree to oversee the student's study behavior by means of the parent account (available upon request) or through the student school account. I (we) agree to check my (our) family email account on a weekly basis for academic-related news from Enlightium and respond as needed.
Enlightium’s accreditation standards require students to spend 30-50 minutes on average on each assignment (depending on the grade level and subject) to ensure mastery of the content. If a student has a pattern of spending an insufficient amount of time, they may fail the course and not receive credit. Parents should speak to their student’s counselor if there is concern regarding the amount of time the student is spending on the curriculum.
I (we) understand that Enlightium reserves the right to adjust assignment attempts, passing thresholds, and assign additional examinations and/or assignments, to ensure that the student has acquired sufficient knowledge to receive credits. Suspicions arise when the amount of time taken to complete coursework is insufficient, repeated blank assignments and/or projects are submitted, and other evidence of system abuse/lack of effort.
I (we) understand that Enlightium’s curriculum is a work-at-your-own-pace curriculum on a daily and weekly basis, yet with a firm deadline for all work to be submitted by the end of each term, unless otherwise approved by Enlightium administration.
A work-at-your-own-pace curriculum gives students the option to spend more time to complete a given assignment, including tests and quizzes, as long as the student does not fall behind schedule on a weekly basis. Students may also work at any point in the day and any time during the week as long as the weekly schedule is followed. The student may also take additional time during the week, such as evenings and weekends, to catch up on or work ahead in any given course.
Enlightium reserves the right to require any student to block certain websites and/or use monitoring software to ensure the student's activity and to substantiate the credit-worthiness of the completed school work. This action may be required if a pattern of insufficient time spent on lessons become apparent. It can also be used as a preventative measure.
Please note: Students won’t have access to the online curriculum a few times during the standard school year. This typically occurs at the end of each quarter. View Enlightium’s calendar for details.
Primary (PreK-2), Elementary (3-5) and Middle (6-8) School Students: all work must be finished by the official last day of a given school year, unless otherwise approved by Enlightium administration.
High School (9-12) Students: all first semester work must be completed by the end of the first semester, unless otherwise approved by Enlightium administration.
I (we) understand that merely enrolling in Enlightium does not guarantee credit for the current grade level. I (we) understand that all high school students are required to finish all first semester course work by the assigned deadline in order to receive credit.
If the coursework is not finished by the assigned deadline, the student will receive zeros for all incomplete work in courses with 75% or more completion rate. This may result in a failing grade or a loss of credit, unless otherwise approved by Enlightium administration based on special circumstances. The student will receive an “Incomplete” on their report card or transcript in courses with less than 75% completion rate.
I (we) understand that the Enlightium counselor may reduce my (our) student's course load if they are significantly behind in their courses and if not enough days are left in the current term to finish all assigned work. The goal of the reduction is to give the student a manageable workload, enabling them to earn as much credit as possible in the remaining time available.
I (we) understand that I (we) will not be reimbursed for courses taken out of my (our) student's schedule for the reasons described above. I (we) understand that I (we) will be notified of these changes and have the right to refuse the reduction, despite Enlightium’s recommendation.
I (we) understand that a teacher may block my (our) student's progress in a course until a solution is determined between the teacher, the parent(s), and the student. Course progress may be delayed for the following:
I (we) understand that if I (we) do not respond to communication from staff and faculty regarding a given issue in the timeframe provided, such as truancy or misuse of curriculum or software (per the licensing agreements within each portal), a student’s account access may be denied or suspended for three days.
I (we) agree to Enlightium's plagiarism policies outlined therein and commit to taking the appropriate precautions to ensure that my (our) student does not plagiarize.
The parents or guardians of students enrolled in the Bronze Program (grades 3-10) are to read, sign and submit the Enlightium Bronze Program Parent Agreement Form. This form outlines the responsibilities of parents or guardians to ensure the success of their Bronze Program student.
I (we) understand that if my child would like to compete in sports at the collegiate level, the student’s counselor must be informed via the enrollment form or email so NCAA-approved courses are assigned, per counselor approval.
I (we) understand that Enlightium is an accredited institution by AdvancEd and ACSI - regional accrediting organizations. I (we) will check and comply with any applicable local and state online private schooling requirements by visiting HSLDA.org or propublica.org. Seniors that meet Enlightium Academy graduation requirements and comply with their state online school requirements are accepted by most public and private universities nationwide. However, because some colleges and universities have unique admission requirements, we recommend contacting the college/university of your choice to determine what, if any, additional admission requirements exist.
If enrolling under a Co-Op school agreement with another school, I (we) agree to allow Enlightium to share relevant information on a need-to-know basis with the school named on the enrollment form.
I (we) understand that my (our) student may be sent an invite to Enlightium’s private social media platform where students can interact and I (we) understand that it is my (our) responsibility to supervise the student’s activity as necessary.
I (we) understand that Enlightium might highlight or showcase students with Enlightium stakeholders and/or for marketing purposes through internal or external communication without the use of personally identifiable information, aside from first name, last initial, grade level, and state of residence.
It is my (our) responsibility as parent(s) to be aware of my (our) student’s progress within the assigned curriculum. I (we) understand that the Enlightium Progress Department will track my (our) student’s progress and send notices as needed to the parent’s/guardian’s email, phone, and/or mailing address. I (we) agree to notify the Enlightium Progress Department with an Absence Form of any changes to my (our) student’s attendance before an expected absence or as soon as possible during an unexpected absence.
I (we) understand that as an accredited school, Enlightium abides by truancy policy and is obligated to withdraw a student who has not been active in the curriculum for four weeks or more without a pre-approved written excuse, including, but not limited to, serious health issues or a death in the family.
If my (our) student will be absent for more than one week or is continuously unable to complete enough coursework due to illness or other excusable reasons, I (we) understand that it is my (our) responsibility to provide appropriate documentation to the Progress Department to avoid any penalties per Enlightium’s attendance policies.
Enlightium reserves the right to deny enrollment to any family or student(s). In the event that enrollment is denied, an explanation may or may not be provided. The enrollment fee and tuition paid for the school year in question will be refunded.
I (we) understand that once all necessary classes are assigned, I (we) will be notified and will have 14 days to withdraw my (our) student without any penalty or tuition amount due. I (we) also understand that the enrollment fee is only refundable if enrollment is canceled within 72 hours of enrolling.
I (we) understand that as an accredited school, Enlightium abides by truancy policy and is obligated to withdraw a student who has not been active in the curriculum for more than 1 month (30 days) without a properly written excuse, including, but not limited to, serious health issues or a death in the family.
I (we) agree to the Withdrawal Policy, which states that Enlightium will apply a staggered withdrawal fee schedule at 20% for withdrawing between 14–30 calendar days, 30% for 31–60 days, 40% for 61–90 days from beginning coursework, and no refund after 90 days. For example, if the remaining tuition for the school year equates to $1,500 and the student has been enrolled for 61–90 days, the withdrawal fee would be $600 ($1,500 x .4 = $600). If the student is behind, Enlightium will calculate the withdrawal fee based on the time the student had access to the curriculum and to the day of withdrawal notification.
A report card/transcript will not be released until the withdrawal fee and completed coursework is paid. This withdrawal policy applies whether the withdrawal is initiated by myself (us) or Enlightium administration due to lack of payment, low academic progress, low attendance, or failure to comply with Enlightium policies. The fee will not apply to a prearranged partial-year enrollment. Students in grades PreK-2 who have purchased books prior to withdrawal will need to handle book returns separately with the supplier. The withdrawal fee does not apply to Add-Ons since those are paid upfront and are non-refundable after the trial period.
As honor courses are separate from standard courses, there is a 15% course transfer fee to transfer grades from one course to the other, after 14 days. However, if a student finds the pace of the honors program too demanding, the program can be changed to the standard courses within 14 days from the start of courses without a fee being applied.
I (we) authorize Enlightium to electronically charge my (our) debit or credit card for tuition, as outlined below, and, if necessary, to electronically charge my (our) debit or credit card to correct an erroneous transaction. I (we) understand that Enlightium will send the account to a debt collections agency if accounts are determined uncollectible.
An initial declined transaction will be reprocessed daily for three additional attempts; after the third attempt, a $5 late fee will be added to the payment. Families are given a total of 10 days from the initial scheduled payment date to make a payment or request an arrangement to avoid student account deactivation. A $25 reactivation fee will be due before student account(s) can be reactivated. Once deactivated, families have 15 days to pay, make arrangements, or be withdrawn, at which point students may only be reinstated upon administrative approval. An additional $50 reinstatement fee will be due prior to reinstatement.
I (we) understand that the first tuition payment will be made with the card on record three days after the enrollment form is submitted. The amount charged will be based on information provided in the enrollment form, such as the student’s grade and program chosen. If the final tuition differs from that stated on the enrollment form, the difference will be communicated to the family via email and remaining payments adjusted accordingly.
I (we) understand that discounts do not apply to Add-Ons or part-time students, and cannot be combined unless otherwise stated for a promotion.
Refunds for overpayment may be issued upon request, but by default will be left as tuition credit with Enlightium.
I (we) understand that after 14 days of my (our) student starting courses, there will be a $5 fee for changing the payment date one time or a $15 fee for changing all remaining payment dates.
I (we) understand that if my student is a senior (grade 12) there will be a $100 graduation fee. If the prepayment option is chosen, the $100 fee will be added to the tuition. If the monthly payment plan is chosen, the $100 fee will be divided evenly among the monthly payments. The fee is $200 if the diploma needs to be mailed internationally.
I (we) understand that after the 14-day trial period there is a $75 fee for downgrading a student from one program to another, such as downgrading from the Gold Program to the Silver Program. The tuition difference will be calculated based on work completed if the student is on track or ahead of the schedule and time enrolled if the student is behind. There is no fee for upgrading from one program to another, only the increased monthly tuition.
Refunds for overpayment may be issued upon request, but by default will be left as tuition credit with Enlightium.
I (we) understand that Enlightium offers a standard level of support based on my (our) selected support level for a set period of time (typically until the end of the school year or during the summer). I (we) understand that Enlightium reserves the right to charge fees for additional services beyond the support level and for extending the duration of services offered (i.e. early start, summer school). Any additional fees will be communicated via email.
I (we) understand that after 14 days of my (our) student(s) starting courses, there will be a $5 fee for a one-time change of payment date. A $15 fee will be charged if I (we) choose to change all remaining payment dates.
I (we) understand that after the 14-day trial period there is a $75 fee for downgrading a student from one program to another, such as from the Gold Program to the Silver Program. The tuition difference will be calculated based on the work completed, if the student is on track or ahead of the schedule, and time enrolled if the student is behind. There is no fee for upgrading from one program to another, only an increase in monthly tuition.
I (we) understand that my (our) student will be assigned the recommended coursework to progress toward graduation and that graduation requirements must be met in order to graduate. I (we) understand that the standard full-time student tuition is calculated based on grade level, and will be prorated based on how much work is assigned within each class. If enrolling as a part-time student, the student cost per credit is applicable.
I (we) understand that a working computer and an internet connection are required for students in Grades 3-12 to access Ignitia, the curriculum utilized by Enlightium. Enlightium does not provide computers for its students. I (we) also understand that desktop computers and laptops are recommended for student use and that mobile devices such as phones and tablets are not recommended. Additionally, families with students in grades PreK-2 need a computer and an internet connection to upload files to Ignitia.
I (we) understand that my student(s) may be required to take photographs of hand-written work or drawings for assignments in courses such as math and science. Students can submit the work by:
I (we) understand that satellite internet is not recommended as it may cause technical issues with Ignitia. Enlightium is not liable for any issues caused by satellite internet.
Any calls to or from Enlightium staff may be monitored and recorded for record-keeping, training and quality-assurance purposes.
Families who selected the Bronze Program should understand that additional responsibilities, outlined below, are required to remain enrolled in this program.
I (we) will ensure the student completes the weekly allotment of assignments. I (we) understand that if my (our) student falls more than 2 weeks behind on average between all courses and is placed on Low Progress Probation, the student will be required to take Bridge Program for additional support and accountability or upgrade to a program with support from Enlightium teachers or be withdrawn from Enlightium Academy. I (we) will review the assignments with the student prior to them taking a quiz or test, review incorrectly marked questions, and go over solutions to gain my (our) student’s understanding.
I (we) will monitor my personal email at least once a week for important messages from Enlightium.
I (we) understand that students are required to maintain a minimum of 63% or greater in all core subjects to remain in the Bronze Program. I (we) understand that students will have 2 weeks to show a significant improvement, otherwise they will be required to upgrade to a teacher-led support level and or to be enrolled into the Bridge Program for at least one quarter. I (we) understand that students may be allowed to remain in the program with grades below a 63%, if they take alternate quizzes or tests or submit corrections for the assignments needed to pass the unit, before moving on.
