AP Psychology

Offered to Grades 9-12.
1 Credit

This year-long, writing-intensive course is designed to introduce students to the systematic and scientific study of the behavior and mental processes of human beings from a biblical perspective. God has created human beings as soul and body, and both must be considered to understand and treat human beings in a holistic manner. This course will treat the subject matter of psychology from this perspective rather than the naturalistic viewpoint that undergirds modern psychology.

Students will become familiar with the various schools of thought in psychology over the past 150 years, the role of the brain, what compels us to act, the nature of emotion, how we learn, and a host of other fascinating and relevant subjects. The course units include textbook-based lessons, on- and off-computer exercises, special projects, writing assignments, quizzes, and tests. Students will have the opportunity to learn, grow, and connect the ideas they are studying with their everyday life and relationships. This course has been built around the practices published in the AP Psychology Course and Exam Description.

This course focuses on the following topics:

  • History, Worldview, and Research Methods
  • Biological Basis of Behavior
  • Sensation, Perception, Motivation, and Emotion
  • Learning and Memory
  • Developmental Psychology
  • Consciousness, Thinking, Language, and Intelligence
  • Personality
